The new building creates a courtyard entertaining space between the studio and the house. It provides protection from the west wind and shades the patio on hot summer afternoons.
The modern studio spreads its arms and lifts its head to embrace the courtyard with its cape or shield- like, cantilevered roof. Inside, the arms provide subtle definition for the various uses of the space while the 14 foot high ceilings maintain the feel of one large room. Tall walls provide hanging space for art in progress and height for vigorous exercise. French doors on the south and east make the space light and airy while providing inspirational views of the surrounding mountains.
